Mycoblastus  sanguinarius (L.) Norm.
Status of species A very rare species. Registered in the Red Data Book of Estonia and in the Lists of endangered lichens species in Denmark, Germany, Austria and Poland.
Distribution Western part of Latvia.
Habitat An epiphytic crustose lichen growing on deciduous and conifer trees.
Occurance Singly specimens occur on tree trunks.
Reproduction By spores.
Changes in number and distribution Found for the first time in Latvia in Slītere reserve in 1971 near Dāvids cave on oak and spruce (A. Piterāns). It is negatively affected by changes in biotope and pollution.
Existing protection Localities are known in Slītere reserve. Red Data Book of Latvia, 1992.
Suggestions for study Lichen biology and dynamics of population development should be studied. Its distribution should be defined.
